Abstract Background Identifying the underlying mechanisms through which adverse childhood experiences affect (ACEs) the mental health of adolescents is of paramount importance for disease prevention in later stages of life. Objective The present study examines the relationship between ACEs and psychopathology in adolescents from northern Chile and how attachment style (abandonment anxiety and intimacy avoidance) may moderate this relationship. A total of 154 schooled adolescents aged 12 to 17 (M = 15.08, SD = 1.64) completed a series of self-report questionnaires including the Adverse Childhood Experience Questionnaire (ACEs), Experiences in Close Relationships-Relationship Structures (ECR-RS), and Youth Self Report (YSR-18). Results The data analysis was carried out using SPSS version 25, which included descriptive analysis, one-way ANOVA, and Spearman correlation analysis. To address moderation analysis, the PROCESS macro extension version 4.1 was employed. In this process, the bootstrap method was applied to construct confidence intervals, and the pick-a-point approach was used to define the levels of the moderating variable. According to the results, 80.3% of the sample experienced one or more ACEs, and 16.4% reported experiencing at least three. Furthermore, the variables under study exhibited significant correlations with each other, except for intimacy avoidance, which showed no correlation with ACEs (rho = −0.10; p = 0.273). When considering abandonment anxiety as a moderating variable, the direct effect of ACEs on externalizing symptoms showed statistically significant changes (β = 0.60, p = 0.03). No other moderating effects were found according to the proposed models. Conclusion In childhood, the accumulation of ACEs is associated with the development of psychopathology in adolescents from northern Chile, specifically with the presence of internalizing and externalizing symptoms. These findings suggest that lower levels of abandonment anxiety could mitigate the effects of ACEs on adolescent psychopathology, while higher levels of abandonment anxiety could exacerbate these effects on psychopathology.

Abstract: Background: Several researchers have been interested in the phenomenon of parental alienation. However, this complex relational dynamic has not been without controversy. Objective: To conduct a systematic review of current perspectives and trends on the concept of parental alienation, its characteristics and effects on the population experiencing these circumstances. Method: PRISMA-P methodology was used to conduct an exhaustive literature search of articles published between 2016 and June 2020 in Scopus and/or WOS indexed journals. Ninety-five studies were contemplated, of which 11 were considered for the review, according to the pre-established inclusion and exclusion criteria. A broad field of research was identified in which parental alienation is circumscribed as a relational dynamic. Results: The 11 selected studies established relationships between the experience of parental alienation and mental health indicators, both in children, adolescents and adults who experience or have experienced these dynamics. Thus, it was also related to psychological maltreatment. Conclusions: Parental alienation is a phenomenon with a significant prevalence in the population and has been linked to a deterioration in the mental health of people who experience or have experienced it.

Resumen: Antecedentes: Son diversos las/os investigadoras/es que se han interesado por el fenómeno de la alienación parental. No obstante, esta compleja dinámica relacional no ha estado exenta de controversias. Objetivo: Realizar una revisión sistemática de las perspectivas y tendencias actuales del concepto de alienación parental, sus características y efectos en la población que experimentan estas circunstancias. Método: Se utilizó la metodología PRISMA-P para llevar a cabo una búsqueda bibliográfica exhaustiva de artículos publicados entre el año 2016 y junio de 2020 en revistas indexadas Scopus y/o WOS. Se contemplaron 95 estudios, de los cuales 11 fueron considerados para la revisión, de acuerdo con los criterios de inclusión y exclusión preestablecidos. Se identificó un amplio campo investigativo en el cual se circunscribe la alienación parental, como dinámica relacional. Resultados: Los 11 estudios seleccionados establecían relaciones entre la experiencia de alienación parental e indicadores de salud mental, tanto en niños, niñas, adolescentes, como adultos que experimentan o experimentaron estas dinámicas. Así también, se relacionó con maltrato psicológico. Conclusiones: La alienación parental es un fenómeno con una importante prevalencia en la población y se ha vinculado con un deterioro en la salud mental de las personas que la experimentan o la han experimentado.

ABSTRACT The pandemic by COVID-19 affected the workplace of psychosocial teams for the support of child abuse victims. The ways of attention have passed from the face to face to the online sessions, with the challenges that this entails in both the practical and technical, protective. The most vulnerable families present greater problems of internet connection -with the consequent isolation- and greater stress that can worsen the relationship within the family, increasing the complexity of the interventions. In this context, the aim of the study was to describe the meanings of the professionals in centers specialized in the care of child abuse victims with respect to the specialized intervention developed during the crisis by COVID-19. Forty-two professionals from these centers participated and answered a semi-structured online interview. The results of the analysis of qualitative content give an account of the meanings associated to the risks associated to the intervention in this context (for the children and their families, for the intervention, associated to the precarization of sociomaterial conditions, low connectivity and confinement). However, participants also highlight opportunities and resources in the intervention (the capacity to adapt the interventions to the new context and teamwork). All of the above is useful in the immediate term in order to make risks and opportunities visible in a crisis that seems to be longer than originally thought. It is necessary to act quickly in order to make the pertinent modifications in the interventions so as to reduce the risks and enhance the opportunities for the benefit of children and adolescents.

RESUMEN La crisis sociosanitaria por COVID-19 ha afectado la forma en que los centros especializados en apoyo a víctimas de maltrato infantil realizan su labor. El formato de atención ha pasado desde lo presencial a lo online, con los desafíos que eso conlleva tanto en el ámbito práctico como en el ámbito técnico-profesional. Las familias más vulnerables presentan mayores problemas de conexión -con el consecuente aislamiento- y mayores estresores que pueden empeorar la relación al interior de la familia, aumentando la complejidad de las intervenciones. En este contexto el objetivo del estudio fue describir los significados de los profesionales de centros especializados en la atención a víctimas de maltrato infantil respecto de la intervención especializada desarrollada durante la crisis por COVID-19. Participaron 42 profesionales de estos centros, quienes respondieron una entrevista semiestructurada online. Los resultados del análisis de contenido cualitativo dan cuenta de significados asociados a los riesgos asociados a la intervención en este contexto (para los niños y sus familias, para la intervención, asociados a la precarización de condiciones sociomateriales, baja conectividad y confinamiento). No obstante, los participantes también destacan oportunidades y recursos en la intervención (la capacidad de adaptar las intervenciones al nuevo contexto y el trabajo de equipo). Todo lo anterior resulta de utilidad en lo inmediato de forma de visibilizar riesgos y oportunidades en una crisis que parece ser que será más larga de lo originalmente pensado. Es necesario actuar rápidamente para realizar las modificaciones pertinentes en las intervenciones, de forma de disminuir los riesgos y potenciar las oportunidades en beneficio de los niños, niñas y adolescentes.

Abstract: The aim of this research was determining the prevalence and characteristics of sexual victimization in a national sample of Chilean children and youth. We worked with secondary data of Encuesta Nacional de Polivictimización (2017). The sample was probabilistic and included 19,684 participants between 12 and 18 years (M = 14.7, SD = 1.59) from all regions of Chile. The participants answered an adapted version of the Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire (JVQ) to assess different forms of violence, however, for the present study only seven items related to sexual victimization were considered. The results show that 26.4% report at least one type of sexual victimization throughout lifetime and 16.7% report at least one sexual victimization during the last 12 months. Logistic regression analysis showed higher probability of sexual victimization in women, older adolescents, students from lower socioeconomic level schools and cities outside Santiago (capital). In addition, the probability was greater in migrants, in participants belonging to ethnic minorities and in those with some disability. These results are discussed the magnitude of this issue of child and adolescent sexual victimization and to promote generation of prevention strategies

Resumen: El objetivo de la presente investigación es determinar la prevalencia de victimización sexual y características asociadas, en una muestra nacional de niños, y adolescentes chilenos. Se trabajó con datos secundarios de la Encuesta Nacional de Polivictimización (2017). La muestra fue de tipo probabilístico e incluyó a 19.684 participantes entre 12 y 18 años (M = 14,7, DT = 1,59) de todas las regiones de Chile continental. Los participantes respondieron una adaptación del Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire (JVQ) que evalúa diferentes formas de violencia. Para este estudio únicamente se consideraron siete ítems referidos a victimización sexual. Los resultados muestran que el 26,4% reporta al menos un tipo de victimización sexual a lo largo de su vida y que el 16,7% reporta al menos una victimización sexual durante los últimos 12 meses. Análisis de regresión logística muestran mayor probabilidad de sufrir victimización sexual en las mujeres, en adolescentes de mayor edad, provenientes de colegios de menor nivel socioeconómico y de regiones. Además, la probabilidad fue mayor en migrantes, en participantes pertenecientes a minorías étnicas y en aquellos con alguna discapacidad. Se discuten estos resultados en vías de la visibilización de la magnitud de la victimización sexual infantojuvenil y de la generación de estrategias de prevención.

Abstract: Internationally, there is evidence that poly-victimization in childhood -exposure to different types of violence- has negative consequences for individuals even into adulthood. The consequences would be more severe than repeated exposure to a specific type of violence. In Chile there is not enough research on this phenomenon. For this reason, the objective of the study is to evaluate the relationship between poly-victimization, posttraumatic symptomatology, self-efficacy and social support in a sample of 180 university students (M = 20.72, SD = 3.10). We performed both bivariate (correlations) and multivariate analyzes (multiple regression and path analysis). The results show a direct relationship between poly-victimization and posttraumatic symptomatology. In addition, self-efficacy mediated the relationship between social support and symptomatology: the greater the social support, the greater the self-efficacy, and thus the less symptomatology. We discuss the implications of these results for the psychotherapy processes with adult population with mental health problems.

Resumen: Internacionalmente existe evidencia de que la polivictimización infantojuvenil -exposición a distintos tipos de violencia- tiene consecuencias negativas en los individuos incluso hasta la edad adulta. Las consecuencias serían más severas que la exposición repetida a un tipo específico de violencia. Dado que en Chile hay poca investigación sobre este fenómeno, el objetivo del estudio es evaluar la relación entre polivictimización, sintomatología postraumática, autoeficacia y apoyo social en una muestra de 180 estudiantes universitarios (M = 20,72; DE = 3,10). Se realizan análisis bivariados (correlaciones) y multivariados (análisis de senderos). Los resultados dan cuenta de una relación directa entre la polivictimización infantojuvenil y la sintomatología postraumática actual. Además, se aprecia que la autoeficacia media la relación entre el apoyo social y la sintomatología: a mayor apoyo, mayor autoeficacia y menor sintomatología. Se discuten las implicancias de estos resultados para los procesos de psicoterapia con población adulta con problemas de salud mental.
